(Adoption Pending!) Kira is available again. Through no fault of her own, she is being returned back to TART from her foster to adopt family who have had her several months. The couple is beginning a new chapter in their life that is taking them to countries outside of the U.S. This life change prompted their decision. Kira has benefited from her time in their home. Their current notes and observations are below. Kira’s Initial TART profile from March 2022 is below that as a historical reference.
“Kira is just the most beautiful Airedale, inside and out! She has the curliest coat I have ever seen and eyes that will melt your heart, they are big, brown and full of desire to love and be loved!
Kira is adventurous, playful and has the most gentle nature of any dog I have ever been around! There is nothing Kira loves more than going on daily walks, you can tell she really takes in her surroundings and genuinely enjoys a good view! Kira LOVES to be outside, she would be fantastic going on walks around the neighborhood, day hikes to a state park or even runs! She is very comfortable in water and is super brave exploring new things. I would suggest a harness though, she can get pretty excited if there happens to be a deer or armadillo within eyesight! When the adventuring is done, Kira thoroughly enjoys her rest, once she knows a bed is hers she will be in that bed as often as she can. She loves to eat her food and has become very fond of treats, she has recently begun to take them from your hand! She will play catch with you all day, minus actually bringing you the ball back, you will have to retrieve that yourself but watching her chase the ball is well worth it!
Although her positives far outweigh her quirks, Kira, just like the rest of us has some needs that, if met, would really help her thrive! She needs consistency in her life, along with a calm environment. She really loves other dogs but does need one on one human love and attention. Long petting sessions, walks every day, a scheduled feeding time are essential. She does not care for loud noises or too many people in and out of the house. A stable environment will be the quickest way for her to overcome any past traumas she has endured. Kira does have a tendency to bolt through doorways and can be hard to get back inside if put in a large backyard. Her hesitance to come inside over time has appeared to become more of a game to her, she definitely wants to play. Once inside she becomes timid and unsure, this is where consistency and a calm environment would do wonders for her. Her barking is very minimal, when she does bark it is because she really needs or wants something, she is a very quiet dog!
Kira has been around several children since being in our care, neighborhood kids jump at the chance to pet and love on Kira and she always responds with gentleness. She also has been in several situations when our other dog has pushed her too hard to play and she calmly just refuses if she is not in the mood. I have not once seen her react negatively or become aggressive in the slightest. That being said, we do not have children yet in our home so I cannot say with complete certainty how she would react to a toddler crawling on her, pulling her ears, ect. (Side note, neighborhood kids have come right up to her before and put their face in hers, despite our warning and she just sat quietly and let them. She was completely unbothered. I just wanted to note that.) She has boat loads of energy and deeply desires to connect and trust again. She is a once in a life-time dog. If my husband and I were not so young and are going to be moving around so much in the foreseeable future we would absolutely want to work with her in the areas she needs.
Kira is very well behaved in the house, there have been zero issues with her being left out. We trust her very much! She sleeps through the night and gives you adorable stretches in the morning!
Kira is far cuter than any airedale or fluffy pup I have ever been around, including our own! Once her personality starts to shine through she is just a GEM and deserves the absolute best home. If you are passionate about restoring trust and love into a rescue dog through time and intentionality, you would not regret giving this girl a chance!”

Hello. My name is Kira and recently I found out I’m a little bit impressive. I never knew. Before being fostered through Texas Airedale Rescue Team (TART) I was an outside, matted dog living out of a dog house in South Texas. My owners were busy, traveled, and knew I was not getting the attention I needed. TART stepped in and what a whirlwind change-of-life it has been! I am now a coiffured, spayed, housebroken, indoor dog, in a loving foster home and boy, do I thrive in the attention. I recognized a good thing the minute I saw it, so I honed my indoor manners REALLY quickly. I love nothing more than relaxing and interacting with my people. They say I’m a dream on a leash and love to walk. Pretty impressive for a backyard girl? This new life is the life I’ve been waiting for. I even think, if circumstances were different, my foster family wouldn’t let me go…I’m THAT impressive. But now that my transformation is almost complete, it is time for me to find my forever home. So, are you looking for a beautiful, affectionate, well-behaved, impressive girl like me?
Kira is a reportedly 2 yr-old female, now spayed, who weighs 58 lbs. She could probably lose a pound or two, but she is broadly built. She is lightly heart worm positive and has started treatment. Otherwise, she is in good health with good ears and good teeth. *Note: Kira is no longer on heart worm treatment.
Although somewhat skittish, Kira is a sweet airedale who LOVES to snuggle. She is not shy about asking for pets. She loves to play and reacts to a bouncing tennis ball with typical airedale aerobatics. Kira also enjoys spending leisurely time intently looking at squirrels.
Before being surrendered, Kira’s first 2 years were spent as an outdoor dog with a dog house. Since being fostered, she remarkably has not had even one accident in the house. She is a little nervous when going through doors--her foster coaxes her through and when she comes, it is a bullet speed. (Her new family might want to work with her on waiting at doors before going calmly through.)
Kira has two minor vices thus far, one is that she loves socks. She has relocated some socks in her foster home which were admittedly, lying on the floor. Despite her love for them, she did not destroyed them. Vice two, is that Kira is currently a finicky eater. Her vet believes she is rejecting dog food as a result of being fed table scraps in the past. She is currently in a transition state of eating cooked chicken with pieces of kibble snuck in. Her new family will need to be willing to continue with her food transition.
Despite her previous owner indicating that Kira was not walked and never received training, going on walks with Kira is a pleasure. She walks nicely at her foster's side without pulling or even sniffing. Getting into a car was initially a new experience for her. At first, her foster had to lift her in, but now she jumps right in rather than needing help. She is a good car rider.
Kira has proved herself to be a reliable "home-alone" girl and now has the run of the house. In the evenings she settles on a dog bed in the living room with her foster family to watch TV. Overnight, she sleeps in a dog bed by her foster's side. She sleeps all night, but notices if you get up. We think the beds at her foster's house were Kira’s first ever beds…and she likes them A LOT.
Kira is currently living with 2 dogs (an airedale and a wire wiener) and they have worked out their system. Initially, Kira lifted her lips a few times when the other dogs came too close to her foster. It seems to be a non issue now. Kira’s previous owner indicated that she was good with other dogs as well as children in the household, ages 7 thru 12.
Kira is now ready to find a loving home with a yard (hopefully full of squirrels) where she can continue to thrive while enjoying her new lease on life. Kira is ready to devote herself to her new person/family and shower them with sweet, snuggly love. In return, Kira must now and forever more be a loved, indoor, cherished dog with plenty of comfy beds.
