Hank has found his forever home!

Meet handsome Hank. He is a spectacular, 70-lb, 18 month-old, affectionate, house-broken boy.  He is being surrendered because his current owner has four Airedales and, as a group, they have become too much to handle. In his current owner’s words “Hank needs more one on one attention and training to fully reach his potential”. He will also need to be microchipped and neutered right away.

Hank was originally obtained by his current owner from a Georgia breeder when he was 4 months old. He has a very strong alpha personality, is very high energy AND LOVES to talk and hear his own voice

Hank is perfectly housebroken. He barks, whines or paws at the door to let you know he needs a break. He is NOT crate-trained. Hank is use to sleeping loose in the house at night. His owner can also leave him loose in the house without issues. At night, Hank usually finds himself a nice spot to snooze under the dining room table, on one of many dog beds, or curled up on the couch.

So far, Hank has not shown anxiety to loud storms or fireworks. He is good with other dogs of both sexes. He might resource guard a high value treat, like a bone, from the dogs, but not people. He has not been tested with cats, but speculation is, he would not do well. Hank has no bite history, but like most Airedales, he can be mouthy and uses his mouth a lot during play.

Hank has happily lived alongside children, ages 10 and 13. Because he jumps up when he gets excited, he might not be a good match for a home with very young children.

Hank enjoys “yard time” especially when the weather is nice. He loves to intently sit and watch. He is a true “watch dog” in that regard. Sometimes, this activity yields him the ultimate prize…a wayward squirrel or rabbit he can chase out of the yard!

What Hank “doesn’t enjoy” is getting baths and/or haircuts, but he endures/bravely suffers through until it’s done. Hank also sulks if his fun “yard time” is cut short by having to come inside. That being said, in extreme weather, Hank is more than willing to forego his normal time in the yard and hang with you inside.

Hank has been known to dig under his owner’s 4ft iron fence, so you have to keep an eye on him in this regard.

Hank enjoys walks but needs further training on the leash. Right now he does best with a leash and prong collar but he should be able to transition to a harness with some work and direction.

Hank is super sweet and affectionate as well as smart and observant. His big, brown puppy eyes simply melt your heart.
