Are you ready to fall in love with an incredibly easy, well-balanced adult Airedale? Well, meet Sophia. She is absolutely the easiest, sweetest girl. Laid back and obedient, Sophia needs someone to call her own who will quit feeding her table scraps and provide her with some fun exercise opportunities. Sophia is being surrender because of changes in her owners life, that have nothing to do with her or her behavior. Sophia is a gem, though she needs a little polish, love, and probably an appointment at the doggie spa to reflect her true potential.

Current home: Sophia is currently put outside during the day and stays within her boundaries with an invisible fence. She is brought inside in the evenings and sleeps in a crate in her current owner's bedroom. On occasion she is brought inside during the day when there is excessive weather but she has never been left alone in the house uncrated…even though current owners said she has never been destructive. Current owners take Sophia to a family farm almost every weekend and she is able to free roam. She comes when you call or whistle. Current owners explained that Sophia is currently overweight as a result of their “old-school” practice of feeding her all types of table scraps. They also do not walk her or provide her with any exercise outlets other than her weekend trips to the farm.
Behavior: Sophia is just a gentle, easy going, affectionate, obedient, low maintenance girl. According to her owner she will bark if the doorbell rings or if she see a critter in the yard, but she is about as easy a dog to care for as you could find.
Sophia’s very favorite things are: 1. Eating 2. Getting pets 3. She’ll fetch a tennis ball about 3 times and she’s done.
Sophia’s least favorite things are: 1. Sophia doesn’t have anything in her life that she seems to truly hate. She isn’t crazy about baths (her current owner baths her and blow dries her with a leaf blower), but even at that, she tolerates it. If she thinks she’s getting a bath she will try to hide but cooperates when it comes down to it.
Sophia has no known anxieties. She might bark at a loud noise but she doesn’t run and hide. Sophia was described as a “soft-coat” Airedale who also has ears that sometimes go in different directions, one ear up, the other ear down.
Sophia travels to the farm most weekends and is a great traveler who lays down immediately and sleeps the majority of the drive.
Sophia spends all day most days in her yard but she does not dig or ruin flower beds.
Sophia is well behaved at the vet’s office and the groomer. Sophia is good with all dogs, male and female, large and small. She is friendly to strangers and loves to get their attention. She enjoys children.
Adoption Challenges (as per current owners): 1. Sophia needs someone to put her on a diet and help her exercise. 2. She is not perfect on a leash but has had little leash exposure. Current owners believe she would be really easy to walk if she got regular exposure to it. 3. In the house, Sophia loves to be near people and can get under-foot trying to stay close.
What an adopter will love about Sophia (as per current owner): A new owner is going to love how easy-going, affectionate and mild-mannered Sophia is. Sophia is obedient and always wanting to please you.
Ideal next home: Current owner reiterated that Sophia is so good natured and adaptable she would fit in to just about any home environment. An older couple with frequent grandchildren visits could be ideal. She will no doubt transition very easily to being the pampered, fully indoor dog she'd like to be.
We realize Sophia doesn't have the best quality photographs to showcase her good looks and potential like some of our surrenders do, BUT that is completely not her fault. We are confident that her next owner is out there falling in love reading about her sweet heart, and can see past the fuzzy, somewhat unflattering photos we have now. Those are her "before pictures" and we know her "after pictures" reflecting time with the right person/family (and maybe a better camera), will be the most incredible, amazing glamour shots of this amazing, beautiful girl, so deserving of a new, loving home.
