I'm ready for my new family!

Hi! My Name Is Clara

I'm Available

Clara is a big-hearted, affectionate girl who likes people, gets along well with other dogs and can't wait to be a loving family dog. She learns fast and adapts quickly. Although it appears she spent most of her early life outside, she is off to an excellent start in acquiring good house manners. She does not get on furniture, though she does attempt to counter surf -- more inspired by curiosity than an intent to steal food. Little was known about Clara when she came to TART after being rescued from a breeder who died unexpectedly. But one of the few notes said that she did not like cats. However, she has encountered a few cats on walks and in the vet's office while being fostered and has not shown any aggressive tendencies. Clara would do best in a family with older children -- no toddlers. She enjoys going for walks and does a happy dance when she sees her leash. She walks nicely and doesn't pull. However, she can be overly reactive when she sees other dogs and will need to work on this. The reactive behavior seems largely due to a lack of socialization, not aggression, and she should be able to conquer this with a little work. She’s an excellent companion and likes to stay by your side. Clara exhibits some separation anxiety when left alone. Her foster family is putting her in a crate with a chew bone when they leave the house, and they are gradually extending the time they are away. Clara is showing progress with the training. A mature lady, Clara is not mouthy and does not jump on you unless she is excited to see you when you return home. Clara travels well in the back seat of the car, either napping or quietly looking out the window. She doesn’t like to sleep in her crate during the night because she prefers to switch back and forth between her cushioned bed and the cool tile floor. She generally stays in one place at night close to her people and doesn't roam around the house. Clara is a healthy girl who has been spayed while in foster care. She has a beautiful coat, with a deep black saddle and dark walnut legs and face. She’s a grazer and will take most of the day to clean her bowl, eating a few mouthfuls of food every hour or so.
