Meet Hilda, a beautiful, young, strong approx. 2 ½ yr-old redhead with a happy, sweet personality BUT an entirely unknown past. She was picked up as a stray by a very small, rural community’s animal control and initially held in a kill shelter. No owner came forward or could be found. Word of her intake got to a wonderful TART adopter took charge of Hilda and made sure she was secure and out of harm’s way. She has now seen a vet and seems to be in robust health (and heart worm negative, yay!). The vet said Hilda needs to gain about 10 lbs which will put her around 80lbs if she meets that goal. She is described as a “DOLL” who has been friendly to dogs (limited exposure) but is untested in most regards. At the vet's office, she did not bark at other dogs in the waiting room and walked right up to the exam table giving kisses. Good girl, Hilda, you're a keeper!
Hilda needs to be spayed asap and it appears she’s had puppies in the past. This may be a clue about her former life.
Hilda is currently in a clean, nice, secure kennel at the moment but TART would like to get her in a foster or foster-to-adopt family as quickly as possible. She would love to be in a cozy home, lapping up some affection and having a yard of her own to roam.
Our issue for placement is that Hilda is virtually untested in all regards. We don’t know how she is with children, cats, or even small dogs. She is strong, energetic and very excited to have people give her attention. Her time in the kennel is most likely amping up her energy levels. She is great in the car and has been friendly to everyone she has met, human and canine alike. The scrape on her nose is from the kennel and her trying to talking to the yard goose where she is staying. Hilda has a fun, strong-willed personality (did someone say Airedale Terrier) and does not seem to know basic commands, but she is smart and a people-pleaser and will work with you once she knows what you want.
Even though Hilda has shown nothing but a very even, sweet, loving disposition, if you are interested in her please know that at this point we cannot consider adopters with small children, cats or even small dogs. That may change as we get to know her better.
If you need a redhead in your life and have the kind of home Hilda is looking for, please submit a TART application. She has fabulous potential to the Airedale lover willing to invest some time with her. Hilda is more than ready to start a new, happy chapter in her life. Would you like to join her?
